Magruder (James Trueman) papers 1780-1831 [microform].

Papers of James Trueman Magruder (1786-1830), native of Maryland, owner and captain of merchant vessels, and plantation owner in Jefferson County. The volumes are ships' logs and a plantation account book. The logs give accounts of his voyages from ports in the United States to ports in Europe and the West Indies from 1785 to 1800. The plantation account book covers the period from August 1818 to December 1830. Included is a letter from Leonard A. Magruder to his brother John H. Magruder and a manuscript. by Alexander Leonard Covington Magruder, son of James T. Magruder. The latter is dated April 19, 1828, and advocates a policy in Mississippi of prohibiting the importation of slaves for sale.
